Anti-doping violation confirmed from Fyn ITU Multisport World Championships Festival

Two British Age-Group athletes set to gain Bronze medals

Following two recent Elite anti-doping suspensions (David Mendoza (MEX) and Eder Mejia Muñoz (MEX)), the International Triathlon Union has today announced its third anti-doping violation within the past two months.

This time it is an Age-Group athlete, Victor David Sanchez Garcia (ESP), who has been suspended from competition for two years, following a test during July’s ITU Multisport World Championships Festival in Fyn, Denmark.

The athlete raced in four events during the Festival, achieving the following results, AG 40-44:

  • 6th July – Duathlon World Champs – 1st
  • 8th July – Sprint Duathlon World Champs – 2nd
  • 10th July – Cross Triathlon World Champs – DNF
  • 14th July – AquaBike World Champs – 4th

The full announcement (HERE), confirms that the test conducted on 6th July, which would imply that it was post-race to his Age-Group (40-44) win in the ITU Duathlon World Championships.

With all of those results now removed, two British Age-Group athletes will now gain Bronze medals;

  • Duathlon World Champs – Adrian Williams upgraded from fourth to third.
  • Sprint Duathlon World Champs – Mark Taylor upgraded from fourth to third.

Victor David Sanchez Garcia had significant previous success at international championship (Age-Group)  level; the ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon European Champion in both 2015 (Alcobendas) and 2016 (Kalkar), plus Silver (2014, Pontevedra) and Bronze (2016, Aviles) at ITU World Championship level.
