IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant will be discontinued after the 2023 edition as the popular full-distance race bites the dust.

The IRONMAN Group and Événements Sportifs Mont-Tremblant revealed their decision in a joint statement, citing the prioritisation of the middle-distance races in June as the reason behind the discontinuation of the full-distance event.

Won last year by Americans Collin Chartier and Haley Chura, the event had become a staple in the North American calendar since its inception in 2012. From next year, all resources will be shifted to IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant and 5150 Mont-Tremblant.

Shifting focus

Going into greater detail on the decision making process, executive producer of Événements Sportifs Mont-Tremblant Marc Monchamp shared that both his company and IRONMAN decided it would be best if their attention shifted to primarily focus on events in June.

IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant

‘’We value the strong relationship with The IRONMAN Group and although this was not an easy decision, it was taken in the best interest of both their organization, and the Mont-Tremblant’s region. The IRONMAN events rapidly established themselves as flagship events in the region, with the entire community mobilizing to host them.

“The region and its welcoming infrastructure are extremely busy during peak periods, and to adequately serve the 5,000+ triathletes in attendance and those who accompany them, we have decided by mutual agreement to prioritize events that take place during the month of June.’’

IM going short(er)

Dave Christen, Regional Director for The IRONMAN Group, echoed these sentiments on the region and doubled down on the companies commitment to support an exciting and prosperous middle distance event in the community for many years to come.

“Our partners in the region are not just partners, they have become friends. We discussed this decision together for a long time now and could not be prouder of the relationship we have formed that allows for us to coordinate on our collective future’s. For many years to come, we look at the IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant and 5150 Mont-Tremblant events as an amazing experience for our athletes, volunteers, and staff alike.”
