Can ‘dream become reality’ for Stars & Stripes star in men’s Supertri Grand Final shootout?

Hungary’s Csongor Lehmann is aiming to turn his dream into reality and secure a first Supertri League title in Toulouse this Sunday (5th October).

The Stars & Stripes star recorded a dramatic first Supertri victory in Jersey to go alongside his second place in Toronto and leads the men’s League standings heading to the Grand Final in France.

However, he knows he will have the significant threat of Crown Racing’s leading man, Vasco Vilaça, to reckon with. Though the Portuguese star has finished a place behind Lehmann in both Toronto and Jersey, a Vilaça win in Toulouse would see him lift the trophy.

It does, though, look to be a straight shootout between the pair with Alberto Gonzalez Garcia injured.

Rapid rise

Lehmann has moved from underdog to favourite in a few short weeks, but is trying to take it in his stride.

He said: “It is crazy. When I joined the League it was a dream just to race here, but now I really have a big chance to be on the podium and the overall win as well. I am very excited for the last stage in Toulouse and I will give my best.

“Winning a Supertri League event is huge. I had a good weekend before Jersey in Karlovy Vary and wanted to put out whatever I had in the tank. I was out the front and then wanted to fight for the podium and then fight for the first place. It was just a dream becoming reality.”

Stars & Stripes manager Parker Spencer believes his man has too much momentum to be stopped, saying. “I can’t wait for Toulouse. He is on one right now. The form we are seeing out of him I want to see him go to Toulouse and win it.”

How the title race is looking

  • If either Csongor Lehmann or Vasco Vilaça win in Toulouse then they will win the title.
  • Vilaça must finish ahead of Lehmann to have a chance of winning the title.
  • For John Reed to win the title, he would to score five more points than Lehmann and three more points than Vilaça.
  • For Ricardo Batista or Tayler Reid to take the title, they need to score seven more points than Lehmann and five more points than Vilaça. That would likely mean winning the race with Lehmann finishing 5th or worse and Vilaça finishing 4th or worse.
