Having won the ITU Mixed Relay World Championship title in Hamburg this weekend, the Australian team has now confirmed its participation in the British Triathlon Mixed Relay Cup Nottingham on 2 September. The event will be televised live by BBC.

The ITU Mixed Relay World Championships in Hamburg were the most competitive ever following the news last month that the event will feature in the 2020 Olympic Games. Australia won the world title in a thrilling race that was watched by 150,000 fans. The race came down to the final one mile run leg with five teams, including Great Britain, in the hunt for gold.

Australia claimed the gold just ahead of USA, and both teams are set to race in Nottingham. Team USA had already confirmed their participation in the Mixed Relay Cup, and now Australia, Japan and Canada have entered teams into British Triathlon’s newest event. International teams will race against teams from Britain’s major triathlon training centres, including Leeds, Cardiff, Stirling, Loughborough and Nottingham.

The Australian team for the British Triathlon Mixed Relay Cup has been labeled as a team of ‘young guns’, and will feature Matthew Hauser, who was part of the gold medal- winning team this weekend.

Hauser said: “I am looking forward to racing such an exciting event, which now forms part of the Olympic and Commonwealth Games. I see this as a fantastic opportunity to race against some of the best athletes in the world in what is a fast and exciting format.”

Paula Findlay, a former winner of multiple ITU World Triathlon Series races, is expected to line up as part of the Canadian team. Canada were fifth, one place behind Great Britain, in the ITU Mixed Relay World Championships.

Sophie Colwell, who featured in Great Britain’s Mixed Relay team in Hamburg said: “To have international triathlon teams coming to my home town of Nottingham is huge, and the Mixed Relay format is so exciting to watch.”

Grandstand tickets are still available, with prices starting from just £10. More information here: http://www.seetickets.com/event/british-triathlon-mixed-relay-cup/victoria-embankment/1073825/?src=seesportmain.
